Chapter 1: The Call of the Forest

Finally, the day had come. With a heavy heart and a determined spirit, Woulf stood before his village. For a year, he had felt the pull of distant voices, the cries for help echoing in his mind. Today, he would heed those calls.

Within his village, there had been rumblings of pain. The villagers gathered to support Woulf in any way they could as he prepared for his journey. There were tears and commands to be safe and to make the village proud. With resolve, he faced the road to the Lumibear village.

The voice of the forest cried in his ears as he shouldered his backpack and headed west towards the setting sun. The weight of his decision bore down on him, but he knew he could not ignore the call. The mycorrhizal network whispered secrets of unrest, and it was up to him to uncover the truth.

As he ventured deeper into the forest, the familiar sights and sounds of his home gave way to the unknown. Shadows danced among the trees, and the air was thick with the scent of magic. Every step brought him closer to the source of the disturbance, and he could feel the forest's heartbeat quicken in anticipation.

Ahead, the path forked, and Woulf paused, unsure of which way to go. The mycorrhizal network hummed with urgency, guiding him towards the left path. Trusting in the forest's wisdom, he followed its lead, his senses alert to any signs of danger.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the forest floor, Woulf pressed on. He knew that the journey ahead would be fraught with peril, but he also knew that he was not alone. The forest was alive with whispers of support, and he drew strength from their words.

With each step, Woulf grew more determined to uncover the truth behind the forest's unrest. The Lumibear village awaited him, its fate intertwined with his own. As the darkness closed in around him, he knew that his journey had only just begun.

Chapter 2: The Lumibear Village

As Woulf ventured deeper into the forest, guided by the whispers of the mycorrhizal network, he emerged into a clearing bathed in an ethereal glow. The Lumibear village lay before him, a marvel of nature and Lumibear craftsmanship.

The village was alive with activity. Lumibears bustled about, their fur shimmering in the moonlight. What caught Woulf's attention, however, were the delicate, shimmering webs that adorned the village. These were not ordinary spider webs; they were the work of the Lumibears' revered spider companions.

However, Woulf noticed something amiss. The Lumibears' fur, which usually glowed brightly, seemed to be fading, and some of the webs were in poor condition, as if the spiders were sick. The once intricate patterns now looked frayed and weak, a stark contrast to the usual beauty of the village.

Seeking answers, Woulf was led to the village elder, a wise Lumibear whose fur still held a faint glow. The elder listened intently as Woulf recounted his journey and the troubles plaguing the forest. With a solemn nod, the elder spoke of a darkness that had crept into the forest, disrupting the natural balance. It seemed that the Lumibears had also felt the effects, their once vibrant village now showing signs of decay.

Determined to help, Woulf offered his assistance. The Lumibears, grateful for his offer, showed him to a secluded grove where mushrooms thrived. There, Woulf could sense the disturbance in the mycorrhizal network, a darkness lurking just beneath the surface.

Chapter 3: The Guardian

Determined to uncover the source of the darkness plaguing the forest, Woulf set out to find the Guardian. The Lumibears had spoken of an ancient being, a protector of the forest, who might hold the answers he sought.

After a long journey, Woulf arrived at the heart of the forest, where the Guardian resided. The Guardian was a towering figure, with skin the color of bark and eyes that glowed with ancient wisdom. As Woulf approached, he felt a wave of energy wash over him, filling him with a sense of awe and reverence.

The Guardian listened as Woulf recounted his journey and the troubles facing the forest. With a voice like the rustling of leaves, the Guardian spoke of a powerful force that had infiltrated the mycorrhizal network, corrupting its natural harmony. The Guardian explained that the network was the lifeblood of the forest, connecting all living beings and ensuring their survival.

The darkness, the Guardian revealed, was a malevolent entity that had taken root in the network, sapping its energy and causing imbalance throughout the forest. The Guardian sensed that Woulf carried a unique gift, a connection to the forest that could help him combat this darkness.

Determined to restore balance, Woulf offered his assistance to the Guardian. The Guardian, recognizing Woulf's bravery and determination, agreed to help him. Together, they devised a plan to confront the darkness and restore harmony to the forest.

As Woulf left the Guardian's presence, he felt a renewed sense of purpose. He knew that the journey ahead would not be easy, but he was determined to see it through. With the Guardian's guidance, Woulf set out to confront the darkness and protect the forest he called home.

One last thing and if you have read this far help me decide on the source of the conflict.

"It sounds like you're looking for an antagonist or a source of conflict that disrupts the mycorrhizal network and threatens the balance of the forest. Here are a few ideas that could serve as potential sources of disruption:

  1. The Dark Entity: An ancient, malevolent force that seeks to corrupt the mycorrhizal network for its own sinister purposes. This entity could poison the network or create barriers that block the flow of energy, weakening the forest and its inhabitants.

  2. The Environmental Imbalance: Perhaps there's an external threat to the forest, such as deforestation or pollution, that disrupts the natural balance of the ecosystem. This could indirectly affect the mycorrhizal network, causing it to weaken or malfunction.

  3. Magical Interference: A powerful mage or sorcerer could be manipulating the magic of the forest for their own gain, inadvertently causing harm to the mycorrhizal network in the process. Their actions could disrupt the flow of energy and destabilize the entire ecosystem.

  4. Natural Disaster: A catastrophic event, such as a wildfire or a severe drought, could ravage the forest and damage the mycorrhizal network. The sudden loss of vegetation or water could disrupt the symbiotic relationships between plants and fungi, leading to widespread devastation."

The mycorrhizal network is the network of fungi under the ground it is how trees communicate. In my story it is the most important entity in the magic forest they live in.

I was on my way to see GD#3 in Aurora with my son when he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Everlovin' was planning on coming down to get me that night after work. I was a little worried because it meant he would be very tired after working all day and then driving the 2 hrs to get me and the 2 hrs back cause we needed to be at the airport at 9:30 or so. My son said that Aurora was pretty close to where Everlovin' lives near the border of Toronto and Markham so he could drop me off and save Everlovin from having to make the trip. It also meant I could worry less about his heart and the fatigue he would be feeling with the time change between Ontario and Alberta. So instead of spending the night traveling dinner was provided by my MIL and I got to sit out under the gazebo and see all the pretty flowers my BIL has grown. I need to say before I go any further that I had never been on a jet before, I'd ridden in a fixed wing so it wasn't totally strange. I was beyon

July 12

Today we head to Calgary after E is done working. We packed up and checked out of the Sandman. I spent most of the day in a place called Cafe on 54. E joined me and grabbed himself a Reuban when he was done which he seem to like. I worked on the journal and drew a picture of Edmonton before we landed.  Scan and add photo of art work. We had to wait for the network guy while he returned his car so we hung out at a nearby gas station though it was a bit more than that with a car wash and a convenience store. It was a long wait so I grabbed some junk food. I lost one of the things I bought but the 7 day croissant was pretty good. The network guy wanted to stop at a beach called Sylvan Beach on the way to Calgary. It was interesting, one of those lakes where you can walk out a long way before it starts to get above your knees. There was a camping area, a playground, and a small marina.     I walked along the kelp-strewn beach looking for a stone or two, what I found were waterlogged wood

Perhaps I was a little hasty...

Last night all I could think about was getting out of this town and going to someplace safe and quiet.  Funny enough when I went searching for safe and affordable Peterborough was actually on the list and yes the list was new as of June 2022. Kinda surprised to find that we are actually pretty safe here despite all the stuff going on. I was watching Tik Tok and this guy was jogging down a street in Vancouver, there were literally dozens of tents and homeless all along the street. Made me realize that we do have it pretty good here even with the rents doubling in the last six months. I would rather not leave Ontario but the cheapest rents are in Quebec and one of the eastern provinces, I can't remember which one off the top of my head. This is scary Maybe I'll find a way to curb the urge to run away for awhile.
